Description:
Cattle and cattle shed with Verstappen in photo. A fine type of barn. In the afternoon took photos of cattle and grounds of chef de poste. The cattle are as fat as butter - they do well here - but do not produce much milk, about 1 1/2 liter per day. The butter made here - put up in banana leaf - transported in petrol cans to Dar-es-salam and to India - where it is refined and tinned for the European market. It cannot be eaten here by Europeans. The cattle have unusually large horns, and these horns are often 6 inch in diameter. [Shantz travel journal, Feb. 26, 1920]
