Description:
Four feet of red soil - over a lime like subsoil extending down to 10 ft. or more. The surface soil comes closer to the surface in places, 1 1/2 ft. A terribly windy day - cannot see but a short distance. The dust blows from the fields and colors everything reddish. [Shantz travel journal, Sep. 30, 1919]
