Description:
Auctioning pumpkins in the market square at Kimberley, "6 bob." Another plant used extensively here is the "vegetable marrow" of which I will secure and at a seed store - since the fruit is eaten like a summer squash - and in a green condition. It is very highly prized - but like the pumpkins - when served boiled has a slightly unpleasant cucurbit taste. [Shantz travel journal, Sep. 19, 1919]
