Forward from train, shows alternating brush and grass. Brush is thick thorn. Aloes at station 11 miles from Pt. Eliz[abeth]. This country reminds one of our west. A trap - 2 wheels and 2 horses carry passengers to the distant farm, while another group coasts home on a hand car. Vegetation is an alternation of open grassland or low shrub and thorn brush great thickets 8 to 10 ft. high - a tangled mass like the Addo bush. [Shantz travel journal, Sep. 3, 1919]
